Overcomers Ministry

The Overcomers Ministry (a special needs resource) at Messiah Community Church collaboratively and competently embraces and integrates children with special healthcare needs and their families into every aspect of our pillars of ministry.  We take a holistic, yet Christ centered approach to care, while providing referrals, resources and parent training to aide families. Our focus is to empower the children we serve and their families to see themselves not as victims, but the way Christ does, as overcomers!  We currently serve children ages 2-10, and middle school aged children with special healthcare needs by way of a buddy space (a sensory friendly environment).  This space is available for young children with sensory sensitivity.  We also provide one-to-one buddies, as needed, for older children who are able to attend inclusion classes.  Our staffing consists of trained volunteers from our church membership, community partners (i.e. Stevenson University students, and local area high schools), and caring parents.   We offer free parent training for those seeking information about ADHD, Autism and Special Education services.  The ministry also provides sign language interpreting for one of our 3 worship services at 10:00am on Sundays.

Through a collaborative grant with The Hali Project and Chik-Fil-A, we are proud to be the church sponsor for the Beyond Our Dreams Marriage Retreat.  This retreat will be a time of rest and relaxation that is specifically for parents of children with special healthcare needs.  The retreat will take place at the luxurious Turf Valley Resort in Catonsville Md.   Space is extremely limited so register today!   Please see the MCC website for the graphic we used for the retreat.
